Ostropoler, Hirsch

(fl. 18th cent.)
   Polish Yiddish jester. He was born in Balta, Podolia, and lived at Medzibozh. He derived his name from Ostropol in Poland, where he was the shohet. He later wandered throughout Podolia. Booklets recording his tales and anecdotes were published posthumously.
